With the new school year just around the corner, it’s time to start preparing your family’s school year sleep schedules. Especially for children, sleep
plays a critical role in growth and development, and not getting enough sleep can make it harder for children to focus, control their emotions, and
learn and retain new information while they’re at school.

Two weeks ago, the National Sleep Foundation released the results from their annual poll, Sleep in America, which
surveys the sleep health and behaviors of Americans. The 2015 poll found that pain is a key factor in sleep loss for a whopping 57 percent of Americans suffering from chronic or acute pain. After pain, stress and poor
health were the next related concerns.

A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to meet with Iowa senators and representatives about the importance of sleep. Members
